On this day: Arsenal want Jovetic and Coutinho 'Messi-like'

On the 15th March 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 15th March 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 15th March 2013…

Arsenal reportedly had set their hearts on Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic as their number one transfer target.

The Montenegrin was having yet another impressive campaign at Fiorentina - and Arsenal were said to be keen on a £20 million move for the player.

However, despite the interest in his services, he ruled out such a move in June the same year stating by revealing he wanted a Juventus switch.

Instead he signed for Manchester City and has had an injury ravaged season.

Liverpool were getting set to take on Southampton in the Premier League - and The Saints boss had high praise for their most recent recruit.

Mauricio Pochettino had managed Philippe Coutinho whilst Espanyol coach and wanted to snap him up again that January.

However he lost out to Liverpool - and was clearly still a big fan of the Brazilian:

“Philippe is a Brazilian player and, as it happens with most Brazilians, he has a special magic in his feet. What is important about him is he is a good lad, a good kid - a great, humble person. I do think Coutinho has that same quality that Ronaldinho and Messi have, but he has much to prove yet.”

Make my De Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was celebrating - after he received his first ever call-up to the Spanish national team.

A regular at youth level he had recently been in superb form for the Red Devils.

Iker Casillas had suffered broken hand - and therefore De Gea got his international chance.

However a year later and he has still not made his international debut.
