Nemanja Matic has revealed that he opted to return to Stamford Bridge after only 60 seconds' worth of consideration.
Chelsea made three January signings in the former of Kurt Zouma, Mohamed Salah and Nemanja Matic, with the giant Serbian midfielder making an instant impression in his return to west London.
The former Benfica man has slotted into the Blues’ midfield with aplomb, with dominant displays in the middle of the park adding to the club’s push for silverware this season.
After a botched first spell at Chelsea, Matic blossomed at the Estadio da Luz and was coveted by plenty of European clubs.
However, the star has revealed that he did not have to think twice about rejoining the current Premier League leaders.
"I had no doubts about coming back,” he is quoted as saying by The Daily Express.
"I spoke with my agent for one minute and that was it. I decided it was good for me to come back.
"To be honest, I didn't know what my contract was going to be. I just said: 'OK, I will go there and after that we will see'. We made a deal and I am happy.
“For me, I said I want to improve, to play good football in a good League, the money was not the most important thing."
Matic also admitted that his first spell at Chelsea was a chance for him to learn but that he was better equipped to make an impact this time round.
"The first time here I was very young and Chelsea had big players in my position: (Michael) Ballack, (Frank) Lampard, (Michael) Essien,” he continued.
“I also came here injured, I was four months out so it was difficult for me.
"I feel now is right moment for me to play Premier League. It is not easy for young players in the Premier League because it is very hard, very tough. Now I feel I am prepared.”
Matic has become an instant favourite amongst the Chelsea fans, with the Stamford Bridge faithful labelling him ‘the beast’.
The 25-year-old is in line to face Aston Villa this weekend as the Blues look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
