€70m-rated 21-year-old ‘did well to quit Manchester United’ says club legend

Cantona

Former Manchester United player Eric Cantona believes Paul Pogba did well to leave Old Trafford.

Anyone who saw Paul Pogba play during his time at Manchester United knew he was destined for the top. The problem was most of those performances came in the youth and under-21s sides, with the Frenchman rarely given a chance in the first-team under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Within months of completing his move to Juventus, Pogba became a regular starter and earned his place in the French national team, proving categorically just how good he was.

And given that trajectory, it is no surprise that some of Europe’s biggest spenders have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old.

While United have recently been tipped to attempt an audacious reunion with Pogba, it appears Paris Saint-Germain are the most eager to sign a player who would help them build that all-French midfield they are reportedly seeking.

He will not come cheap, but that may not be a problem for the free-spending Ligue 1 champions, who are reportedly considering a huge €70million bid for one of the best midfield talents in world football.

Wherever he ends up, former United great Eric Cantona believes he did the right thing leaving Old Trafford.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport and later published by Football Italia, Cantona is quoted as saying, “Pogba certainly did well to quit Manchester United and Juventus did well to take him.”

It is somewhat surprising that a player with such strong links with the reigning Premier League champions would say it was the right move for Pogba to leave his former club.

Then again, given the young star's form since that move, few would disagree with him.
