The top five players linked with signing for Chelsea this week: Costa, Hamsik and more

Atletico Madrid, PSG, AC Milan, Napoli and Benfica stars all feature.

Jose Mourinho has made very public attempts to play down the position of strength his Chelsea side currently enjoys.

The Blues are top of the Premier League and in a great position in the Champions League with an owner who has never shown any fear when it comes to getting out his cheque book.

Chelsea continue to be linked with plenty of expensive and high profile summer signings and we’ve taken a look at the top five players linked with Stamford Bridge moves over the last week.

1) Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

This very morning saw the suggestion (from the Metro) that Chelsea have made Atletico’s Diego Costa their priority signing for the summer. They seem ready to play hard ball over price as their initial offer is reportedly going to be £27 million, some way short of the player’s buy-out clause.

2) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

A familiar name for any Blues fans who follow Chelsea transfer news regularly. The latest on the player’s situation has seen him rule out a move away from PSG, suggesting reports that he’s not happy at the French club aren’t true. It’s not the first, and probably won’t be the last, time he’s spoken out over his future.

3) Mario Balotelli (AC Milan)

Mourinho’s Inter Milan connection with Balotelli means that there is always the possibility Chelsea’s manager will go after his former player. The Daily Mirror claims that AC Milan are ready to sell Balotelli and with Chelsea in need of a striker, they could pounce after the World Cup.

4) Marek Hamsik (Napoli)

Hamsik is reportedly unhappy with the way he’s being used and treated by manager Rafa Benitez at the Serie A club. Maybe Rafa’s just jealous he’s got some hair left. The Express has suggested Chelsea could be one of the sides who offer him a way out, bringing him in as an attacking alternative to Oscar.

5) Lazar Markovic (Benfica)

The 20-year-old winger has reportedly been a target for Chelsea for a significant period of time. The Independent touched on a report earlier this week from the Evening Standard, which suggests the Blues have first option on signing the wide man this summer.
