Marc Bartra will finally sign an extension at Barcelona on Tuesday.
It has been reported for two months now that Barcelona defender Marc Bartra had signed a new deal with the club.
When he reportedly Tweeted these words it was pretty clear that it had happened:
“What a special day! The best birthday, renewal for 4 years with the club of my life. Always Barca.”
His contract was approaching its expiry - and this January renewal announcement seemed to be a ‘hands-off’ approach from Barca considering interest in the player was rising.
Even the Catalan club released this statement on the deal:
"Barcelona announce they have reached an agreement with Marc Bartra to renew his contract, which finished next June 30, and which will be extended until June 30, 2017. The buy-out clause in the new contract will be 25 million euros (£20.7million)."
But that was in January - and so far, nothing has been completed.
Hope therefore remained that there may be a chance of snapping him up in the summer for next to nothing. Until pen hits paper - especially in the world of football - nothing is official.
With the recent news that Carles Puyol would not remain a Barca player beyond the end of this season it seems that the club have decided enough is enough - and it is time to get his future sorted.
They announced yesterday that Bartra will sit down and sign his extension until 2017 next Tuesday (18th March)…
Marc Bartra will sign a contract extension at the Club next Tuesday which will keep him a Barça player until at least June 2017. The opt out clause in the new contract has been set at 25 million Euros.
So finally it seems some closure arrives in this transfer rumour - Bartra will be a Barca player until 2017 unless somebody coughs up €25 million for his services.
