Gueida Fofana - Lyon man shows why Newcastle want him with superb Europa display

Olympique Lyonnais

Gueida Fofana scored twice as Lyon beat Viktoria Plzen 4-1 at the Stade de Gerland and the midfielder is only getting better.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder was influential in the victory, scoring twice as his side came from behind to put one foot in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

He completed 100% of his tackles and completed 60 of his 69 passes in a dominant performance.

The Frenchman has made 24 appearances in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season, scoring twice, with both goals coming since the turn of the year as he continues to go from strength to strength.

The former Le Havre midfielder has created 18 chances for his teammates, with one assist up to this point.

Fofana is dominant in the air, winning 67% of his aerial duels this season and his defensive capabilities mean he can also fill in at centre-back if required.

He has captained France at all youth levels from U16’s all the way through to U21’s but has yet to appear for the senior side.

Valued at just over £4m on transfermarkt.co.uk, Fofana could well be on the move in the summer if he continues to impress at Lyon.

Fofana was linked with a move to Newcastle in January and the midfielder can expect to be in demand come the summer transfer window.
