In November Croatian international Ivan Rakitic refused to sign a new deal at his La Liga outfit - despite admitting he is happy at Sevilla. Since then it is no surprise that his name has been linked with several of the biggest players in the market across Europe.
His reported release clause is at €40 million - and while interested parties would love to spend less considering his form this season they might just stump up the cash for the talented maestro.
However it seemed as though hope of signing him was lost earlier in the week.
Reports in Spain suggested that a new deal - extending his stay at Sevilla until 2018 - was on the cards, with a reduced release clause written into the contract.
His current deal expires in 2015 - so Sevilla no a sale is necessary if he does not sign a new contract before the start of next season - so this was music to the ears of Sevilla fans, who desperately want their talismanic creator to stay at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
But United and Liverpool have good news today - after Rakitic, quite irritated at the constant speculation, confirmed nothing was don’t in regards an extension.
Quoted by Croatian outlet Jutarni List, he said when asked of a potential new deal at Sevilla:
“No, that's not true. Nothing, we have not agreed on anything I have not decided. “
And when speaking about his weekend match the question came up again - to which he responded spikily:
“Now is not the time to talk about it. I said I'd talk about it when something happens. Do not insist on that topic every two days.”
So Rakitic does indeed seem to still be in the shop window for anyone willing to cough up the cash.
