Match to be played on Sunday 16th March 2014 at 13:30. Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
Moyes will have one eye on the Champions League second leg against Olympiakos which means he has to balance going all out for a win this weekend against resting key players for that match against the Greeks.
However, considering how well the side played against West Brom and the fact this match is against Liverpool could mean he goes with the same team.
Winning the Champions League may be United’s best chance of getting into the tournament next season but Moyes should be able to name a strong side regardless.
GK – David De Gea
There’s been plenty of speculation this week about Asmir Begovic potentially coming in at Old Trafford. This is another chance for De Gea to show that would be a stupid decision.
RB – Rafael
The Brazilian right-back can be effective at both ends of the pitch during this game. He needs to read the game well and predict Liverpool’s tactical movements.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones looks as though he’s going to be playing in the heart of Manchester United’s defence for years. He’s got the pace and the agility to cope with both Liverpool forwards.
CB – Nemanja Vidic
Moyes is likely to get Vidic into the side considering the potential of Liverpool’s attack. The Serbian needs to drop off quickly to compensate for his lack of pace.
LB – Patrice Evra
Evra needs to use all of his experience in this game if he’s faced up against Raheem Sterling. He also needs to press forward whenever he can as he’s a vital source of width on the left.
RM – Juan Mata
Moyes seems to like using Mata in a wide role at the moment which means he’ll more than like continue down the right. It shouldn’t be a major problem unless Sterling switches flanks.
CM – Michael Carrick
One of the first names down on the team sheet. He’ll sit in front of the back four and make it difficult for Liverpool to move the ball quickly. He could be replaced by someone like Tom Cleverley or Ryan Giggs in the second half.
CM – Marouane Fellaini
Fellaini had a great game against West Brom so it’s important for Moyes to get him into the team to keep the momentum going.
LM – Adnan Januzaj
Januzaj needs to play because he’s only going to get better if he performs against the tougher opponents. He’s one of the few United players who can make things happen whenever he gets on the ball.
ST – Wayne Rooney
Rooney won’t always play at the top of the attack. He’ll drop into central midfield and out to either side based on where United need an extra body during the game.
ST – Robin Van Persie
It’s a big game for RVP and a match to show he’s still very much committed to the Manchester United cause. Another star who could be dragged off in the second half.
