Tim Sherwood has received the backing of board member Sir Keith Mills following the Tottenham Head Coach’s outburst, with Mills saying Sherwood was showing his emotion.

Mills has also said that Sherwood is doing a great job, and is quoted saying: “Inevitably when things don’t go well the media are very keen to have inquests but if you are not prepared to take the rough with the smooth then you shouldn’t be involved with football.

“He was very emotional and upset and if I had his job I would probably be emotional and upset.”

Midfielder Sandro has warned against too much transfer activity at the club this summer, saying it is difficult for the team if you ‘change all the time.’

He’s quoted in the London Evening Standard, saying: “There is a lot of change every year, so it’s a good time to stay with the same team and to start to go upwards. Every season we have new players so it’s a bit difficult for everyone.

“The new players will do well next season because everyone will know what to do. I didn’t reach my top level until the second season. That was the first time I started to show what I could do.”

Any hope that Spurs will have had of landing Barcelona’s Marc Bartra appear to have ended according to TalkSport.

The 23-year-old is due to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions. Liverpool were also said to be interested in the player.

Spurs are in Europa League action against Benfica this evening, and Hugo Lloris is anticipating a difficult game at the start of a crucial double header in Tottenham's season.

He told the Tottenham website: “Benfica is one of the best teams in Europe and used to playing in the Champions League.

“The Europa League is an objective for the team and on Sunday there is a massive game, a derby, you work all season to be ready for these games.”
