United have NOT opened talks regarding €45m midfielder says Portuguese press

Following reports yesterday that Manchester United had begun talks about the possible transfer of William Carvalho, the Portuguese press claim otherwise.

Yesterday the Daily Mail ran a report claiming Manchester United had opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over the possible transfer of midfielder William Carvalho.

The 21-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Primeira Liga side this season and is exactly the type of player David Moyes needs – a young defensive midfielder who is destined to become one of Europe’s very best in that position.

United have long been linked with William, with the club’s scouting missions to check on the Portugal international reportedly now into double figures.

But following yesterday’s claims, newspaper A Bola has responded with a story of their own, claiming United have not opened talks over a potential move.

The Mail had suggested that Sporting may have been willing to do business for €35million – €10million less than the player’s reported release-clause – but A Bola now says that information “does not correspond with reality”.

In time United fans will find out what is true and what is not.

But the simple fact is if they do manage to secure William’s services they will be signing an outstanding young player with supreme talent in the defensive role – a player who could have a huge impact on the new United their fans expect to see next season and beyond.
