The two Arsenal stars who can take advantage of Ozil's injury

Serge Gnabry and Lukas Podolski could both get extra playing time in light of Mesut Ozil's injury.

Mesut Ozil’s hamstring injury is a massive blow for Arsenal as they continue their quest for a domestic double with Premier League and FA Cup glory.

The German will be out of action for a few weeks according to Arsene Wenger and his absence from the side means the squad will need to shift around a little bit.

With Santi Cazorla likely to play the number ten role while Ozil is out of the side, two Arsenal first team stars can take advantage of Ozil’s injury at a key stage in the season.

Cazorla moving into a predominantly central position means Germans Lukas Podolski and Serge Gnabry both stand a great chance of seeing more game time over the next few weeks.

It’s significant for them at club level but also at international level with the World Cup just around the corner and no more friendly matches for Deutschland before the end of the season.

It’s especially significant in the case of Gnabry because he has a real chance to get his teeth stuck into first team football for Arsenal, projecting himself forward and grabbing the attention of Jorgi Low.

Podolski is more assured of his place for the German national side but if he can improve on his basic stats in key areas such as goals and assists, he’ll stand a better chance of starting for Germany at the World Cup.

Podolski is going to be the automatic selection at left midfield for Arsenal but that doesn’t mean Gnabry will see any less game time if he puts the work in during training.

Ozil’s injury, equipped with Jack Wilshere’s absence means there’s going to be a lot of strain place over the central midfielders in the current squad and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be used centrally, where he’s played at times this season.

That would leave the right win open and that’s where Gnabry can come in and take advantage of game time before the World Cup that he wouldn’t have been expecting.

Arsenal have been crippled by the injuries which have plagued the squad throughout the season but they have players with talent, pace and experience who can step in and take advantage.
