But is the German international putting his indisputable running into the right areas?
He has had a few yesterday - but suffice to say yesterday was potentially his worst yet.
But to be fair to him it seems he carried a hamstring injury for the majority of the half which may have explained a distracted performance.
However that has not stopped the pitchfork crew getting at Ozil for being ‘lazy’ - a tag being bandied around the player all season by many a critic.
Which struck me by surprise.
Ozil, in Mourinho’s Real Madrid, was a tireless worker both backward and forward as he is for Germany when on international duty. He sometimes gives off the appearance of inertia but that comes with his mercurial and easy way of playing the game, right?
In recent weeks he has certainly looked weary - but is that not down to overload. He didn’t have a full pre-season and he certainly didn’t have a pre-season to prepare himself for the rigours of Premier League football.
And now a picture has emerged on Twitter that certainly seems to correct the tag of lazy - at least in Europe.
Mesut Ozil has in fact covered more ground than any other player in the Arsenal shirt in Europe this season.
This Tweet from Spencer ‘son of Piers’ Morgan shows it…
Fair enough - but this is not an Ozil love-in.
The German international is certainly not doing his defensive duties at the moment. Whilst running from side-to-side and forward come easily to him - turning around and tracking back to goal have not recently been assets on show in the Champions League.
However, he did show glimpses of that aspect of his game against Everton so perhaps the hamstring injury was the reason behind his lackadaisical performance last night - not apathy.
