Powell, Lingard, Zaha and co: The players in contention for a Manchester United first-team chance

Old Trafford Interior

Manchester United have a number of players out on loan, but which of them deserves a first-team chance when the new campaign kicks off?

The way Manchester United’s season has gone to date, more than a few fans might suggest that they would have been better off blooding some of their young players rather than sending them on loan.

But in recent weeks – in the league at least – David Moyes’ side has started to show signs that they are playing their way back into form, with the trio of Adnan Januzaj, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata – none of whom played in the first team under Sir Alex Ferguson – among the most impressive.

In the summer there are likely to be wholesale changes, with Nemanja Vidic potentially followed out the door by the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs to name a few.

There will also be new arrivals – and expensive ones at that. After all, United have to spend big if they want the best and their midfield in particular is crying out for a major restructuring.

But Moyes will also be welcoming back a number of players currently out on loan. And he must decide whether to send them out for another stint elsewhere, or to incorporate them into his first-team plans.

Of those, Nick Powell and Jesse Lingard are most likely to be given a chance to show what they can do in the company of Wayne Rooney et al. While it will be interesting to see if Wilfried Zaha is welcomed back into the first-team fold having been used little prior to his move to Cardiff City.

Then there is Angelo Henriquez, currently on loan at Real Zaragoza, Will and Michael Keane, and Jack Barmby to name a few.

Moyes has a history of giving young players their chance, and he has already shown with his use of Adnan Januzaj that if you are good enough you are old enough.

But who deserves that shot in the United first-team the most? Who would you like to see pulling on the shirt next season?
