Liverpool morning news: Fowler praise of Rodgers, defender hints title is on the players mind's

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler thinks that manager Brendan Rodgers deserves a lot of credit for what he has achieved so far at Liverpool ahead of their huge clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Liverpool go into the game in the rather unusual position for recent years – 11 points ahead of the reigning champions, and Fowler thinks Old Trafford has lost the fear factor it once had, and is confident the Reds can leave with all three points.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “It has lost that fear factor. United had it for a number of years. Teams went there knowing they would be on the back foot and almost expecting to lose. That’s not happening anymore.

“We lost that fear factor at Anfield but thankfully Brendan has brought it back this season.

“We’ve got a fantastic manager who is on course to bring the glory days back to Liverpool.”

Right-back Jon Flanagan has told ITV that potentially ending the season top of the table is on the minds of the squad – though the priority for the season has been a top four finish.

Flanagan said: “It’s on my mind and I think it’s on a lot of the lads’ minds that we could be up there at the end, but our priority was top four and if we can push on I’d be delighted with that.”

In loan news, 20-year-old defender Jakub Sokolik joined Southend United on loan yesterday, the Liverpool website has reported.
