A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United have been linked with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Willian Carvalho for months. And now the Daily Mail claims the Premier League champions have opened talks over a potential transfer.

William has excelled in Portugal this season, becoming one of the most sought-after and exciting young midfield talents in the game.

With a reported €45million release-clause, he will not come cheap. Although the latest report claims Sporting are prepared to do business for €35million, with United keen to pay closer to €30million.

William is a defensive midfielder with the skill-set to thrive in England. He is also at an age where he could still improve considerably in the years to come. With David Moyes tipped to do the majority of his transfer business before a World Cup in which William is tipped to shine, the 21-year-old could be a United player sooner rather than later.

In other news, Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reasserted that Wilfried Zaha is a big part of his plans for the remainder of the season.

The on-loan United winger has been left out of the Bluebirds’ last two games, but the former United striker told Sky Sports, “Of course Zaha has a big role to play, or I would not have brought him to the club.”

And finally, United’s under-21s beat their Wolverhampton Wanderers counterparts 3-0 last night, with a hat-trick from promising striker James Wilson.
