Manchester United have a number of young strikers on their books, but who should get the nod for a first-team chance in their next campaign?
Manchester United currently have a whole host of attacking talent at their disposal. But what about next season – with rumours continuing over the future of both Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez?
Of the two men, Hernandez looks the most likely to leave, given his failure to make much of an impact under David Moyes.
At 25, the Mexican frontman has a decision to make considering that he is unlikely to be much more than an impact substitute when United’s other goal-scoring options are available.
But whatever happens with his current goal-scorers, Moyes will also have some thinking to do in regards to his younger forwards; players like Angelo Henriquez, Will Keane and James Wilson, who could all soon be knocking on his door asking for a first-team opportunity.
Henriquez is currently on loan at Real Zaragoza, where he has enjoyed a mixed campaign, scoring five goals in Spain’s second-tier but none since early November.
Then there is Keane, who after recovering from a potentially career-threatening injury has spent this season on loan first at Wigan Athletic and latterly at Queens Park Rangers.
Big things are expected of the 21-year-old, but he is yet to find the net in senior football this season, and was always going to take time to rediscover his form after so long on the side-lines.
And then there is Wilson, who netted a hat-trick for United’s under-21s against Wolves under-21s on Monday evening. He may only be 18, but he is also outstanding in front of goal and could be Moyes’ wild-card if he is prepared to take a risk.
Considering Keane is three years older than Wilson and two years Henriquez’s senior, it is he you would expect to get the first chance under Moyes. But what do the fans think? Who would they like to see given a chance in the United first-team next season?
