Pele has been speaking about former Manchester United target Lucas Moura and current Chelsea midfielder Oscar.
The Brazilian legend rates both players extremely highly, referring to this generation of players from his homeland as “very promising”.
Pele was talking in Paris at the weekend, in an interview that was later published by Sambafoot, and he said, “Since he played at Sao Paulo we Brazilians have been monitoring Lucas very closely. He has a great future ahead of him.
“He played in the same under-20 team as Neymar, another great player. This generation, with Oscar too, is very promising.”
It is quite a compliment to be singled out by arguably the greatest footballer of all time. And while Oscar’s early-season form has tailed off somewhat more recently, the 22-year-old is a majestic talent who really can be as good as he wants to be.
While his countryman Lucas has sometimes struggled for game-time at Paris Saint-Germain, Jose Mourinho put his faith in Oscar to such an extent that Juan Mata was ultimately allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian has repaid that faith by scoring nine goals and providing eight assists this season to date. And both he and the rest of Chelsea’s Brazilian contingent will be hoping this summer proves an extremely succesful one for the boys in yellow.
