United morning news: £58m man tipped to replace RvP & Arsenal man linked

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

The Sun reports that Manchester United manager David Moyes has targeted Thomas Vermaelen as the man to replace Nemanja Vidic at Old Trafford.

Vidic will leave at the end of the current campaign, having agreed a two-year deal at Inter Milan, and United will need an experienced centre-back to replace him. And the latest report claims Vermaelen could be that man.

The Belgian has dropped down the pecking order at the Gunners due to the impressive partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and a fee of around £12million is being suggested should Moyes make his move.

In other news, Robin van Persie is reportedly ready to miss out on a £10million loyalty bonus to leave United this summer.

That is what the Mirror claims this morning, with the Dutchman said to be “disillusioned” with life at Old Trafford and considering a move to Italy.

And the Sunday People suggests Moyes may sanction a van Persie exit, if he can secure Edinson Cavani as a replacement.

The Paris Saint-Germain front-man has been linked with United for some time, and the report claims Moyes is confident of getting his man for a substantial £58million.
