With Nemanja Vidic departing Old Trafford to pursue a new challenge in Italy next season, Manchester United will be in the market for a new centre-half this summer.
Plenty of defenders have been linked with a move to the current Premier League champions, but one of the most promising is Matthias Ginter.
The young centre-half has impressed over the last 18 months in a struggling Frieburg team and was recently called up by the Germany senior squad for the first team.
With Ginter expected to mature into a top defender, plenty of top European sides including United and Arsenal have been linked with a move for him this summer.
However, an unlikely suitor looks set to make a serious approach for the promising talent, with Bild claiming that Borussia Monchengladbach have entered the race for Ginter’s signature.
Die Fohlen have consistently exceeded expectations under Lucien Favre in recent seasons, and are reportedly eyeing up an audacious move for the defender.
Ginter has recently admitted that he is flattered with rumblings over a move to a bigger club and looks set to leave Freiburg this summer.
