It has been a fantastic weekend for Arsenal, even news of Chelsea's win was tempered by the fact they hammered rivals Tottenham in the process.
The Gunners themselves beat Everton 4-1 in the FA Cup, and avoided an unwanted clash with Manchester City in the process - who lost to Wigan Athletic.
It's a potential banana skin, but a tie Arsenal would rather face after losing 6-3 to City in their last encounter.
Wigan are the current cup holders, presently standing in the way of Arsenal's pursuit of winning a trophy for the first time in nine seasons.
Perhaps in the need to poke fun at Arsenal's huge perceived advantage over Wigan, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker took a dig at the club's recent lack of success in the wake of the Latics' victory:
Wigan face Arsenal in the semis, encouraged massively by the fact they've much more experience of Wembley than the Gunners in recent years.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 9, 2014
It came on the back of an under-the-radar jab at Mesut Ozil at the weekend after his goal, with the German poked fun at by Tottenham fan for appearing 'bug-eyed', with the Tottenham faithful even creating a song about him.
Important goal for Özil. Suspect recent criticism has been a real eye-opener for him.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 8, 2014
Perhaps it's all harmless 'banter', but Lineker's Tottenham connection from his playing days will always mean there's a bit of spice when he aims his humour in Arsenal's direction.
Lineker has had to deal with similar jabs about his ears over the course of his career. Last season he had to defend himself in The Mirror after Arsenal fans took exception to what was perceived as a mickey-take of Arsene Wenger's accent which he denied.
