Arsenal booked their place in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley yesterday with an emphatic, if not flattering, 4-1 win against Everton at The Emirates.
But there dreams of making it to the final seemed to take a knock earlier today - as they got the toughest possible draw.
They were pulled out of the hat to face Manchester City in the semi - the tournament favourites and Premier League rival they would have liked to avoid until the final.
Well of course the simple formality of their home tie against Wigan Athletic had to be dealt with first - reigning champions they may be but City were seeking revenge against a now Football League outfit without their cup-winning boss.
But hang on … this is the FA Cup - and the magic is back.
Wigan put in a fantastic performance to defeat City once again - winning 2-1 - and booking a semi-final with Arsenal.
And Gunners fans are obviously made up. They now feel this represents their best chance yet at winning silverware for the first time since 2005 - with just Wigan and Hull or Sheffield United standing in their way, it should be a walk in the park.
One famous fan seems to be full of hope.
Piers Morgan is very pleased to be facing Wigan and not City in the last four of the competition - and even had a message for a former Arsenal player, dumped out by the minnows…
BOOOOOM! 2-0. Get in there Wigan. And now, right now, we can start to dream.... #afc— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 9, 2014
Come on Wigan, it's Alamo time. Just do whatever it takes.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 9, 2014
BOOOOOOOOM! Astonishing scenes! Brilliant by Wigan. And now, Arsenal fans, finally we can dare to dream again... #FACup— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 9, 2014
But beware Arsenal fans. Exult and gloat all you will now - but Wigan are not going to lay down and die.
They didn’t last year - and complacency will be their secret weapon.
So put the champagne on ice, no, put it back in the cupboard for now.
