A select round-up of morning news relating to Manchester United…
With Nemanja Vidic to leave Manchester United this summer, it seems almost certain that at least one new experienced centre-back will be arriving at Old Trafford prior to the new campaign.
This one seems unlikely given the other names said to be on David Moyes wish-list and the fact that the Frenchman’s form has dipped somewhat in recent seasons.
Given that he will be 32 at the end of March – the same age as Vidic – and only three years Rio Ferdinand’s junior, it also seems unlikely Mexes is the answer to the considerable hole the Serbian defender will leave behind.
Further to that, FourFourTwo reports that the United boss is keen to experiment with new defensive partnerships in what remains of the current campaign – with some of the club’s young defenders seemingly about to get a chance to impress.
“I’ve got young centre-halves to see and I’ll be looking to introduce them in the final month or two of the season,” Moyes said.
