Taking part in a More about Phil YouTube Q&A session, Jones has revealed some interesting stuff.
The Manchester United man has played in number of positions since signing for the Red Devils, including centre-back, right-back and even at central midfield.
His development in a Manchester United shirt has helped him become a regular fixture in the England national team set-up too, although his lack of a fixed position could end up make it difficult for him with the national team.
The 22-year-old has been a solid performer for Manchester United this season, despite his side struggling to maintain a top four challenge. Jones has made 16 Premier League starts so far this term, and has made 40 tackles, 36 interceptions and an impressive 90 clearances.
Statistically speaking, Jones is a stand-out candidate to play at centre-back, and following Nemanja Vidic’s impeding departure from Manchester United this summer, it’s a position the former Blackburn Rovers man may look to make his own.
During the interview, Jones was asked who his favourite player is – and drew attention to which position he claims is his natural one.
Jones said: 'I would say my favourite player(s) is the people who play in my position. I used to focus on the centre-halves when I was growing up'.
Jones went on to name his idols, and surprisingly listed Chelsea defender John Terry amongst his favourites:
'The likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are the players I used to grow up idolising'.
Terry’s antics have scarred his reputation both as a leader and as an England international captain, but there is no doubting his ability, longevity and success - and these are areas in which Phil Jones will be hoping to replicate at Manchester United.
