Mesut Ozil has taken to social media to extend his gratitude to those fans that stood by him in his recent troubles.
Arsenal have beaten Everton 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter finals - meaning they are on their way to Wembley for an FA Cup semi-final, giving the Gunners fans the belief that finally their wait for silverware could be coming to an end.
Arsenal have gone nine years without picking up silverware - since winning the FA Cup against Manchester United in 2005, but this now looks like their best chance yet of breaking that unwanted record.
Arsenal fans now seem to think so - and it was a feeling that first emerged when they snapped up Mesut Ozil for a club record fee in the summer.
Arsenal don’t spend big on players? This is not a Wenger signing? Can he win us silver?
Recently he has not been answering those questions positively.
He has been out of sorts in 2013 - tired from a lack of a winter break and his under-par performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League first leg recently saw many lose faith.
He has had a bit of a rest - and came back firing today.
He scored the opener and worked tirelessly for the cause in a man-of-the-match performance for The Gunners.
And the recent criticism was apparently not lost on Ozil.
He left these messages on social media this afternoon - firstly, an emotive status on his official Facebook page…
And then this Tweet…
4:1 - that was important. Thanks all for the support.— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) March 8, 2014
Arsenal fans will just hope the Ozil they saw today is here for the rest of the season.
