Five facts on Man United and Chelsea target Juan Bernat

The Premier League champions and Stamford Bridge side have been linked with the Valencia defender - but what do we know about him?

Manchester United are gearing up for a busy summer in the transfer window, with a replacement for Patrice Evra one of the areas of concern.

Although the Old Trafford side have been linked with a multitude of left-backs, a new one can be added to the list.

The Daily Mail have stated that David Moyes has identified Juan Bernat as a man capable of succeeding the experienced France international.

Meanwhile, Metro have claimed that Chelsea are also interested in the star, with the Spaniard lined up as a potential replacement for Ashley Cole this summer.

But, what do we know about Bernat?

  • 21-year-old Bernat is a product of the Valencia youth academy and has been a virtual mainstay for the Mestalla outfit this season, starting 15 La Liga games.
  • The versatile left-footer started out his career as a left winger, but has been predominantly used as a full-back over the last year.
  • Bernat has represented his nation at various youth grades from under-16 level through to under-21. He was part of the squad that won the under-19 European Championships in 2012, while he has played for the under-21’s on six occasions.
  • The attack-minded defender is renowned for his turn of pace and has consistently proven himself as a excellent crosser of the ball.
  • With Valencia’s financial problems, Bernat is expected to be widely available and is rated at around the £6 million mark.
