The top five players linked with signing for Arsenal this week: Alves, Griezmann and more

Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Freiburg and Marseille stars all feature.

Arsenal are getting ready for a difficult FA Cup game before the almighty task of trying to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from spinning round at a fast pace.

The Gunners have been linked with some of the best players in Europe over the past week, with Arsene Wenger sitting on a nice little pot of cash which he can use to improve his squad after the World Cup.

We’ve taken a look at the top five players linked with signing for the Gunners over the past week.

1) Dani Alves (Barcelona)

The Express has suggested possible interest from the Gunners in the Barcelona right-back, especially if Wenger can’t convince Bacary Sagna to sign a new deal at the club. The 30-year-old would be a top quality and highly experienced replacement for the Gunners.

2) Antoine Griezmann (Real Sociedad)

The French winger consistently gets linked with an Arsenal move following a reported failed bid for him last January. The Guardian are among the papers to have carried rumours over a possible move this week with the 22-year-old valued at around the £25 million mark.

3) Bernard (Shakhtar Donetsk)

The last thing the Gunners probably need is another playmaker but they have been linked with Shakhtar’s Bernard after he confirmed that he would be quitting the Ukrainian side. He’s also admitted that he has a dream of playing for a big European club.

4) Matthias Ginter (FC Freiburg)

The young German defender has been tipped to come into Arsenal in a nice story, which suggests the experienced figure of Per Mertesacker could take his fellow countryman under his wing. However, there has also been heavy interest from Manchester United according to reports.

5) Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

The Marseille goalkeeper has been suggested as a target for Arsenal, not to replace Wojciech Szczesny but to come in as his number two. Lukasz Fabianski has made it clear he wants to be playing regularly, which means Arsenal could be searching for a deputy this summer.
