Manchester United now have a soon-to-be Brazilian youth international rather than Belgian

Brazil Goal

Manchester United whizkid Andreas Pereira has confirmed he has switched nationality in a sporting sense from Belgian to Brazilian.

Two thought-to-be Belgian players whose dazzling form led to them being signed by Manchester United, may never go onto play international football for the country.

We all know the story of Adnan Januzaj, signed from Anderlecht, who cannot make his mind up whether to play for Albania, Kosovo, Belgium, or even England who may become an option for him in the future.

One who has now made up his mind, who was thought to have already, has delivered bad news the the Belgian FA.

Andreas Pereira, 18, signed for United from PSV in 2012 and has been impressing ever since. The attacking midfielder is already a presence in their under-21 side and scored for the Red Devils in the UEFA Youth League earlier this season.

Now it appears his international future lies in South America, namely with Brazil despite playing at three different levels for Belgium.

He told news outlet Terra this week: "I told Belgium that I don't want to play anymore as I want to focus on Manchester United. They call me, but I want to play for Brazil.

"Brazil's U20 national team manager (Alexandre) Gallo came here, he said that he is seeing several Europe-based players and he told me that I am doing a good job and asked me to keep doing it this way.

"Let's see if I'll be called up more ahead, I hope it happens. It's a dream to play for Brazil, I played for Belgium for three or four years, but it's not the same thing.

"I didn't feel at home, I support Brazil and Brazil is the best team in the world."

It's certainly a blow for Belgium looking at his youth record. At under-16 level he scored a staggering 10 goals in 9 games illustrating his eye for goal. He hasn't featured above under-17 level, perhaps explained by his reluctance to appear any more for the Europeans.

He is a name to watch, because spurred on by Januzaj - he will know what can come his way with hard work, and unlike the first team star, he now has the international decision over his future out of the way.

Manchester United appear to have landed themselves a Brazilian star of the future, without even realising.
