Tottenham latest: Sherwood says pressure off ahead of Chelsea, doubts over record signings fitness

Tim Sherwood Press Conference Smiling 12/02/2014

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Friday evening.

Tim Sherwood has said the only people that expect Tottenham to beat Chelsea in tomorrow’s evening kick off in the Premier League are the players in his dressing room.

Spurs haven’t won at Stamford Bridge in 24 years and the Tottenham Head Coach insists the pressure is off his players going into the game.

He said: “There’s absolutely no pressure on the boys because our record there is so bad. So we can go there, take the shackles off and enjoy the day.

“The only people who expect us to win are inside our dressing room.

“We’ve been good away from home but obviously our recent away game was poor. We played Norwich and we got beaten. If we play anything like we did at Norwich they will be putting more bulbs in the scoreboard.”

Defender Michael Dawson is quoted in the London Evening Standard saying the side’s objective of finishing in the top four this season is still the same and that they aren’t giving up on it but has admitted they are relying on results going against their rivals for fourth place.

“We spent a lot of money in the summer and our aim of being in the Champions League has not changed.

“We need them to slip up and then take advantage when they do that. I do not care whoever drops out, as long as we are in at the end of the season.”

The Evening Standard is also reporting that medical staff at Spurs are unsure about when record signing Erik Lamela will be able to next play a competitive match.

The report suggests that he is some way off making a first team appearance as he has been struggling with a back injury for much of Tim Sherwood’s time in charge.

Roberto Soldado has told the Spurs website that the side is targeting a win at Stamford Bridge despite the poor record they have there as they enter a difficult phase in their season.

“This is a really big month for us and Chelsea’s the next game. Obviously that’s the one that we’ve got to get a good result at to kick on.

“This month is going to be decisive in how our season pans out so if we can win there I think things will be better for the future.”
