The German national coach Joachim Low has a difficult decision to make over which top class stars make the grade and go to Brazil and who’s left behind in various parts of Europe.
The assessment is broken into three different sections; guaranteed a place, a good chance and an outside chance.
In terms of Premier League interest, there are five stars who feature from Arsenal and Chelsea with four considered guaranteed players for the World Cup squad and one player tipped to miss out.
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski are all considered guaranteed places while Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle is also rated a shoe-in for Low’s squad.
So who misses out?
Unfortunately for the Gunners it’s an Arsenal player, with youngster Serge Gnabry rated with only an outside chance of making the final squad.
However, there is still plenty of football left before the end of the season and things can change.
Low has said in the recent past that no one is safe so a particularly poor next two to three months of football could see several players on the list move around, with Gnabry improving his chances of going to Brazil if he can get into the Arsenal side and stay there.
Of the four apparently guaranteed places at the tournament in Brazil, Podolski and Schurrle are probably the players who could slide down and out of those guaranteed positions.
Neither has been able to nail down regular starting football at their Premier League club but it would take a very brave Low to dispense with either heading into a tournament that Germany have a very realistic chance of winning.
