The Italian coach may have ruffled a few feathers with his comments at an Italian football convention.
At a pre-World Cup convention in Italy that the Gazzetta dello Sport is hosting, 20 important figures - the majority being current Serie A coaches - had a reunion to discuss matters in Serie A and in the international game.
Following a round of interesting questions, each of the 20 coaches put forward a vote of who they believed would lift the World Cup trophy and who would be the star player of the tournament.
Household names such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Luis Suarez were called upon, yet it was the Argentine maestro Messi who the majority believed would be the star.
Reported by Spanish paper AS, when asked privately who Carlo Ancelotti believed would shine in Brazil, he responded openly by saying ‘Lionel Messi’.
It will be interesting to find out the reaction of star Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo to Ancelotti’s claims. The Portuguese goal machine isn’t one for hiding his emotions, and he expressed his unhappiness in Madrid last year as a result of his teammates not backing him in the race to win the Ballon d’Or.
Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil was also recognised at the reunion as a result of his amazing number of assists.
During the discussion, the German international received a vote and was noted as the possible star player. If he can rediscover his early season form heading in to the World Cup, then Germany might just fancy their chances this summer after avoiding Spain and Brazil in their side of the draw.
Who will be the star player in Brazil this summer?
