Spanish press claim Man City to bid €200 million for Lionel Messi

El Confidencial have stated that the Etihad Stadium outfit are ready to break the bank for the Argentine star this summer.

With Lionel Messi already Barcelona’s top-ever goalscorer, the Argentine forward looks set to break all possible records with the Camp Nou club.

Despite being under contract and having an affinity to the Catalan club that he has been with for the majority of his life, transfer rumours continue to surround the star.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with an approach for Messi in the past, while there were also rumblings that Adidas wanted to bankroll a move to either Chelsea or Bayern Munich – two teams they sponsor.

The latest rumour surrounding the diminutive South American comes from Spain, where El Confidencial claim that Manchester City will lodge a €200 million offer for the star this summer.

Just how credence is in the report remains to be seen, while Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rulings would surely ensure that this deal could not happen.

If by some miracle the switch was to happen, the fee would be two-and-a-half times the current world transfer record that Real Madrid shelled out for Gareth Bale in the summer.
