Predicted Everton XI to play Arsenal - Lukaku to head the attack!

Match to be played on Saturday March 8 2014 at 12:45 GMT. Venue: Emirates Stadium, London.

Everton face the daunting task of going to Arsenal this weekend and attempting to put the Gunners out of the FA Cup.

The Toffees have played well in the tournament so far this season, producing a comprehensive win over Swansea City to run out 3-1 winners in the last round. Roberto Martinez has selection dilemmas ahead of the game with several players going back to the club short on recovery time ahead of the game.

Here’s the side Martinez may select.

GK – Tim Howard

The American is one of the most reliable players that Everton have. They know exactly what they’re going to get from him and he’ll slot straight in.

RB – Seamus Coleman

Coleman has been one of the best right-backs in English football this season. He gets forward and attacks well but never forgets about his basic defensive duties.

CB – John Stones

With Phil Jagielka out of action with a hamstring problem, Stones could keep his place in the heart of the defence. It’s a great chance for him to prove he can play well in a high pressure situation.

CB – Sylvain Distin

Distin injects experience into the back four. He’ll have to drop off quickly to give himself the best chance of coping with the pace in the Arsenal attack.

LB – Leighton Baines

Baines didn’t play for England during the week so he’ll be fresh. He’s another very reliable player and has great delivery, which can make the difference for the side in dead ball situations.

RM – Kevin Mirallas

The Belgian has to fit into the side somewhere and he could start over on the right. He’ll roam around when Coleman gets forward but remains a very good and consistent winger.

CM – Gareth Barry

Barry will play that role in front of the back four offering a little bit of protection. He needs to get into the right positions and make it difficult for Arsenal to move the ball around freely.

CM – James McCarthy

McCarthy will probably play in a slightly more advanced role, dropping off when the side is under pressure. He’s superb when it comes to grabbing the midfield by the scruff of the neck with resistance or driving them forward.

AM – Ross Barkley

Barkley is one of the more creative players in Everton’s team so they’ll probably try and get him onto the ball as quickly as possible.

LM – Steven Pienaar

The South African should retain his place over on the left. It’s important he works well with Baines against the experience of Bacary Sagna down that side.

ST – Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian striker has made it clear he wants to go to the final with Everton and he has a great chance to dominate in attack.
