The Spain international has been selected as the Old Trafford outfit’s best performer in February.
The Spaniard has had a lukewarm start to life at Old Trafford, offering up a couple of assists but is yet to hit the back of the net.
However, it appears that Mata’s impact has been treated in a positive fashion, with the former Chelsea man picking up the Manchester club’s February Player of the Month award.
The award is voted for by the fans, with the diminutive schemer picking up 55 per cent of the vote. Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic came second ad third respectively.
Mata said he was honoured to receive the award in his first full month with the club.
“It's amazing for me to be awarded with this prize after my first month,” Mata told the club’s official website.
“I have played just a few games, five games I think, and I am really grateful the fans have voted for me.
“I feel really happy. Life in Manchester is good, I have already found a house, I have a new home and I am trying to know different places around the city.
“It is a really nice city to live in. It is quiet, relaxing and you can be focused on what is important – playing football.”
With United struggling for form, it may well be that Mata was the best of a bad bunch or it could well be something of a sympathy vote.
Mata is clearly gifted and will be a real asset once he settles at his new club. However, doubts over where he will play continue, as Wayne Rooney holds the Spaniard’s preferred number ten role.
