Manchester United target unhappy with manager, admits he has to adapt

Manchester United linked Mateo Kovacic is not finding life easy at Inter Milan.

Manchester United were linked with various deals with Inter Milan in January, from selling Javier Hernandez and Nani, to signing Fredy Guarin.

The fourth possibility which did not eventually occur, was the rumoured addition via Italian sources of Croatian playmaker Mateo Kovacic.

The youngster was linked with the Red Devils before switching to Inter a year earlier, the Metro touting him as the next Luka Modric during his time at Dinamo Zagreb.

This season has been a mixed one for him, at just 19 the midfielder has no goals and one assist from just eight starts, with Inter fans accepting he is a project for the future rather than a player to provide an answer to their troubles right now.

Kovacic has now taken the perhaps unadvised step of blaming his manager's approach for his troubles, but does at least accept the responsibility is on him to tackle them.

He told Tuttosport: "Mazzarri prefer this style more, but I like most of the offensive game. I have to get used to it, I have no choice."

No choice until the summer of course, when he could push for a move away, although whether United retain any interest beyond the rumours which may stem from their previously held one, is unclear.

With a quarter of attacking players who like to play behind the striker, in Mata, Kagawa, Rooney and of course Januzaj, the chance for Kovacic to blossom at United is slim, but if they do want to take a gamble on his potential at a knock-down price, Inter's boss may relent - but whether he would blossom any quicker under the tactics of David Moyes is another issue.
