£13m Manchester United target compared to Henry rejects deal in Italy

Stadio Olimpico Torino

Manchester United target Alessio Cerci has rejected a new deal with Torino.

The 26-year-old Italian forward is reportedly being eyed as a replacement on the flank for Ashley Young at Old Trafford and is rated at £13 million. Cerci rejected a new deal to stay on at Torino where he has been since 2012 after making a Serie A switch from Fiorentina.

He developed as a youngster through the ranks in the Italian capital with Roma where he was hailed as the ‘next Thierry Henry’ across his eight years with the club.

According to reports, Torino may be willing to sell the player for £13 million due to his imminently expiring contract which has entered its final 18 months this January. A senior Italy international with less than 10 caps to his name, Cerci may be looking to prove himself ahead of the World Cup in Brazil this summer where he would be best placed to put himself in the shop window ahead of the final year of his contract.

He is doing precisely that this term at Torino where he has scored an impressive 11 goals in 26 appearances and his ability to provide and create goals will likely be something to grab United boss David Moyes’ attention with his 10 assists in Serie A this term but the Scot may face tough opposition from Juventus who are also rumoured to be interesting in acquiring his services.
