German website TZ has tipped Bayern Munich central defender Dante to sign a new contract with the German and European champions.
The Brazilian defender has been widely linked with moves away from the Allianz Arena this summer with Premier League interest coming in the form of Manchester United, as David Moyes’ side look to replace Nemanja Vidic.
La Liga giants Real Madrid have also been linked with the defender with Dante’s agent suggesting yesterday the stumbling block to any new deal is how hard the German side negotiate in discussions.
However, TZ are clear in their belief that the 30-year-old will be the next player to sign on the dotted line, extending his current deal beyond 2016.
“Bayern Munich are defensively strong and busy – the next one who is likely to extend his contract is Dante,” reads the opening of the report on the site.
TZ has also questioned any logic behind a desire to leave on the part of the defender following complete dominance in the Bundesliga this season to go with a league title and Champions League win last season.
It’s a fair point because it would take a remarkable turn in circumstances to force a player away from such a successful club when he’s having a direct impact on their success.
“The Brazilian feels good in Munich and is aware of his merits in the quintuple success in 2013. He is happy with an increased contract and would like the details to be made clear,” adds the report.
He’s featured in 21 Bundesliga games this season, five Champions League games and five other domestic cup games. Not exactly the set of stats which suggest Pep Guardiola deems him surplus to requirements.
Manchester United will have to go back to the drawing board if their interest in him was accurate.
