Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan has been the subject of a bid from an English club – but who did it come from?
The Turkish international, 27, has starred for Atletico since his 2011 move from Galatasaray, and those displays haven't gone unnoticed, with a number of Premier League teams eyeing the winger up – and now, according to the player's agent, he could well get his move to England after a bid was submitted.
“Arda is playing at a big club with big goals and wants to be a part of their success,” said agent Ahmet Bulut. “We have received an offer from an English club. We will see. There are two sides to every transfer, the player and the club, it’s up to both to decide.”
But whilst there has been plenty of speculation, Bulut failed to say which Premier League team it was that submitted a bid for his client – so who could it be?
It's hardly a secret that Liverpool need a winger. Their January bids for Mohamed Salah and Yevhen Konoplyanka failed, and whilst the emergence of Raheem Sterling as a more consistent performer has been a welcome boost, it still seems that manager Brendan Rodgers will look to add another winger in the summer. This rumour could also have some legs given that Turan is a self confessed Liverpool fan. Speaking in 2010, he said; "In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them." With Champions League football looking likely for the Reds, they may just be able to make Turan's dream come true.
It may seem that the last thing City need is more attacking firepower, but when has that ever stopped them from spending? With rumours linking them with a move for Dynamo Kiev's Andriy Yarmolenko, it seems that manager Manuel Pellegrini could be looking to add another out-and-out winger, with David Silva and Samir Nasri often drifting inside. He's also shown that he likes to bring in players from La Liga, with Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo two of his big signings, and Turan could make it a hat-trick.
Is there a player Manchester United haven't been linked with this season? It doesn't feel like it. Anyway, Turan was reportedly the subject of a deadline day bid from United back in September, but Atletico wouldn't part with their star winger. Since the signing of Juan Mata, it would be somewhat surprising to see United fork out a large amount of money for another attacking midfielder/winger, though if Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani depart this summer, adding a quality player like Turan could only help.
