Fernandinho has certainly boosted his World Cup chances by scoring an absolute cracker.
Manchester City’s Fernandinho is certainly having an excellent debut season for Manchester City since making his £30m move from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 28-year-old has formed an impressive partnership alongside Yaya Toure and is fast becoming a fan favourite at the Etihad stadium.
In his debut Premier League season, he has made 67 tackles and 51 interceptions in just 21 Premier League appearances, statistics which Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari simply cannot overlook.
Joining up with the national side for their final game before Scolari names his 23-man squad for the World Cup, Fernandinho – who is only making his seventh appearance – has certainly staked his claim for a place in the squad.
Goals from Chelsea’s Oscar and two from Neymar had given the Samba boys a comfortable lead, and Fernandinho rounded up an impressive victory with absolute belter.
With just over 10 minutes to play, the Man City man picked up the ball 25-yards out from goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive which flew into the top corner. South Africa’s goalkeeper stood rooted to the spot, watching on as the ball flew past him.
Will Fernandinho make the 23-man squad this summer? Brazil would be daft to leave him out.
