VIDEO: Ex-Spurs star assists West Ham defender's 1st Wales goal since 2009

James Collins isn’t the most frequent of goalscorers, but nonetheless put Wales on top opposite Iceland.

The West Ham defender had a bit of help from a face just a few will recognise as the world’s most expensive footballer - none other than ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

Real Madrid’s £85m man won a free-kick on the right flank 12 minutes into the contest at the Cardiff City Stadium and stepped up to take it himself, curling a teasing ball into the penalty area.

And Collins rose highest to head the delivery into the ground and into the back of the net - his first international goal since a September 2009 World Cup qualifying loss to Russia.

Wales’ 1-0 lead wouldn’t last long, however, as Swansea’s Ashley Williams would punish his own side just ahead of the half-hour mark, deflecting Johan Berg Gudmundsson’s past Wayne Hennessey for an own goal.
