Some things are just meant to be.
Even before Tim Cahill stepped on to the pitch for this evening’s match between Australia and Ecuador at The Den, talk was of him becoming his country’s all-time leading goal-scorer at the ground where he began his professional career.
He talked about the possibility of “the stars aligning”, and they did just that as he put his side 1-0 up, overtaking Damian Mori to reach 30 goals for Australia in the process.
Now playing in the MLS for New York Red Bulls, there is something perfect about the Aussie playing in the US returning to England to cement his status as a legend.
