Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana made all the difference as England saw off Denmark in a generally turgid affair.
The 25-year-old was making just his third appearance for England after a hugely successful season for the Saints, and took his club form to the international stage with a dazzling cameo having come off the bench early in the second half.
Lallana went and played on the left hand side and showed great link up and understanding with his club team mate Luke Shaw, and it was Lallana's superb dribbling and precise cross that led to the winning goal, as Daniel Sturridge rose to head home for Roy Hodgson's side.
The World Cup is drawing ever closer and Hodgson will now have decisions to make regarding his squad, with only 23 players able to represent the Three Lions in Brazil this summer.
Lallana may not have the fanfare behind him that Raheem Sterling of Liverpool or Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain do, but his display against Denmark has England fans demanding that Lallana starts England's first World Cup game against Italy - here are some of the tweets supporting Lallana.

Adam Lallana is a certainty to start in the World Cup after tonight. Henderson, Sturridge and Sterling could have done a lot better.— Stephen Taylor (@SteveTaylor07) March 5, 2014

Lallana and Shaw have pretty much guaranteed their World Cup places with that performance. Lallana is heads and shoulders above Rooney— James Heron (@JamesHeron99) March 5, 2014
If Lallana doesn't go to the World Cup I'm done...been class all season and deserves it more than most!— Rob King (@RobKinggg) March 5, 2014
I've learned a couple of things tonight. Lallana has to go to the World Cup and start and we have major problems in the back 4! #leaky— Mr M Wood (@MWoodPE) March 5, 2014
I'd take Lallana over Wilshere any day of the week. Easy.— Jack Hollands (@HatterHollands) March 5, 2014
