Spain starting XI: Casillas, Azpilicueta, Javi Martinez, Ramos, Alba, Busquets, Thiago, Pedro, Fabregas, Iniesta, Diego Costa
Italy starting XI: Buffon, Maggio, Paletta, Barzagli, Criscito, Marchisio, Thiago Motta, Montolivo, Candreva, Osvaldo, Cerci
Spain and Italy play each other this evening for the first time since last year’s Confederations Cup semi-final, with the former winning on penalties.
But the big story about tonight’s match is the inclusion of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, after the player opted to represent Spain rather than his home country of Brazil. And what makes this match even more headline-worthy is that Costa makes a second debut against the same opposition, after featuring in a friendly match for his homeland against the Italians 12 months ago.
Spain have omitted a number of big name English-based players, but can still call on a whole raft of top-class stars. But Italy will not be an easy test, and you can be sure they will hope to get one over on a side they are familiar with after facing them four times in the last three years.
