A select round-up of morning news relating to Manchester United…
Gaitan has rediscovered his scoring form in recent weeks, and found the net with a majestic effort in the last round of the Europa League. And now it seems that if United do remain interested they may face serious competition from a side very close to home.
In other news, Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani has been warned off a move to Old Trafford – or anywhere else for that matter – by his national team coach.
Uruguay boss Pablo Correa told L’Equipe: “It would be a bad idea for him to go.
“I’m hearing it said that he’s unhappy at PSG, but Cavani doesn’t have an arrogant or egocentric personality like some big stars. The proof is that he’s very quickly adapted to Laurent Blanc’s system.”
Cavani only arrived in France last summer for a reported £54million, but he has been linked with a move to United in recent months, with claims back in January that former manager Sir Alex Ferguson – in his role on the board at Old Trafford – had attempted to broker a deal.
There is no doubt Cavani would be an excellent addition to the club’s playing staff but for now surely the focus will be on strengthening both midfield and defence.
