Bucs proud of “new and exciting" kit; Twitter response mixed.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pulled the curtain back on their new uniform showing off a bold new design and emphasised logo.
Subtlety and the NFL rarely go hand-in-hand, and it is in that spirit that the two-year redesign has embraced with a contrasting template and what critics call “digital clock-style” numbers.
“Today marks the culmination of more than two years of research and planning to bring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into a new and exciting era of our history,” said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Edward Glazer.
“We worked closely with our partners at Nike to design a uniform that would set the standard for both design and functionality. The result is a sleek, modern design that honours our championship past while also establishing a new, bolder identity moving forward.”
According to an ESPN poll, just over half of those asked seem to like or love the new design, however, 27% say they “don't like them” and 18% “hate them”.
Likewise, Twitter has been a forum for split opinion, with some fans and NFL talking heads praising the new direction for being cutting edge, while dissenters make unfavourable comparisons to the defunct XFL jerseys.
However, if the Bucs can improve on their 4-12 season fashion critics will doubtless fall silent.
