Manchester City latest: Midfielder reveals his ‘big goal’; Aguero happy to be back

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

It has been a quiet day in terms of Manchester City news; however two of their players have spoken in recent hours.

Midfielder Fernandinho has been speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, in which he said, “I settled very quickly in Manchester, but the beginning I had to overcome many difficulties.

“People were not looking at me favourably because other Brazilians at City had not done so well. Also, Ukrainian football is not rated very highly in Europe.

“But now I have shown that I deserve to be a regular for City.”

He certainly has, with some fine performances in the centre of the field that often go unheralded by neutrals, but shouldn’t considering his importance to the side.

Those who had watched him at previous club Shakhtar Donetsk expected him to do well for City, but he has done so well that he has earned a recall to the Brazilian national team and will now be dreaming of a place at the World Cup in his homeland this summer.

“The World Cup is my big goal,” he said. “I want to convince Luiz Felipe Scolari by continuing to play well here and by winning trophies with City.”

In other news, the midfielder’s teammate Sergio Aguero has told Sky Sports he hopes he is over his injury problems after returning to the team for the League Cup final on Sunday.

I felt fine,” he said. “It was my first game since the injury.

“I am happy to be back. Obviously there’s always that worry when you come back that there’s no reaction but it all went fine.”

The striker will now surely be hoping he can fire the Blues to another trophy or two in what remains of an already thrilling campaign.
