According to reports in The Guardian, Arsenal top goal scorer Aaron Ramsey is ’48 hours’ away from agreeing a new five-year contract with the North London giants.
The Welshman looks set to double his wage packet from £48,000 a week with a new deal worth ‘in excess’ of £100,000 a week following a sensational season at the Emirates.
Ramsey was one of the five ‘British core’ youngsters who put pen to paper back in December 2012 – Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson all agreed deals to stay on as the future of the club at the Emirates but now the Welsh ace is reportedly on the verge of extending his stay until 2019 in a deal that would make him the club’s highest earner behind record signing Mesut Ozil.
Ramsey is currently injured but is expected to return to the line up this month for the Gunners’ tough clashed with North London rivals Tottenham in the derby at White Hart Lane, followed by a trip to Premier League leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before they host Manchester City at the Emirates at the end of March.
Ramsey has scored 13 goals in all competitions and made 7 assists under manager Arsene Wenger prior to his injury – his link up play with Ozil and front man Olivier Giroud put the Gunners firmly in the title race in 2013 as they look to end their eight-year trophy drought and keeping their highest scorer on the books will likely be a huge boost to their campaign.
