Former Spurs star Jamie Redknapp says Thierry Henry is the best foreigner he's seen in England's top flight.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has revealed that former Gunner Thierry Henry is the best overseas player he’s seen in the Premier League.
Redknapp spent time at Tottenham between 2002 and 2005 where he encountered the Frenchman on several occasions and he’s revealed in a piece on the Daily Mail site that no one came close to him.
“The most prolific forward on the list, the Frenchman was graceful and dazzling. He arrived in England as a lightweight wide player who had struggled in Italy after his move from Monaco. But Arsene Wenger knew what he was getting - a beautiful footballer with a cutting edge,” writes Redknapp.
Henry was the figurehead of the Arsenal side in the early 2000s which was so successful under the guidance of Arsene Wenger and several agree that the club have never recovered since Henry left for Barcelona in 2007.
His pace was one of the key features of his game along with his ability to get the best out of ‘lesser’ players who were orchestrated in the team around him and the way that he liked to play.
“He became Arsenal’s record goalscorer and among their greatest legends during his eight years at Arsenal before moving to Barcelona. Using the same criterion as the Suarez selection, if there was one player I wish I could have played with, it is Thierry,” he added.
Other Arsenal stars in Redknapp’s top ten include midfielder Patrick Vieira and strikers Dennis Bergkamp and Robin Van Persie with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez only in tenth place.
