Roque Santa Cruz did not have the most successful stint at Manchester City.
After signing for £18million from Blackburn Rovers in 2009, the Paraguay international made only a handful of starts and rarely found the net, before a series of loan moves that ultimately saw him join Malaga.
Santa Cruz scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Spanish side last season, but since his permanent switch last summer he has experienced something of a dip in form, scoring only four goals prior to the weekend.
A couple of minor injuries have interrupted his campaign, but he had still made seven appearances since his last goal. However, that changed on Saturday, when Malaga came up against Real Valladolid in what was a vital relegation battle.
Just three points separated the two sides going into the match, with Valladolid occupying the last of the relegation places.
And that is how it remains, after Santa Cruz’s early strike was ultimately cancelled out by Daniel Larsson.
Now back on the goal-trail, the former City man will no doubt be hoping he can fire his side up the table in what remains of the season.
