Report - Moyes scouts £50 million of talent in two Bundesliga games

Julian Draxler

Manchester United boss David Moyes was in Germany watching several players according to reports.

Reports suggest that Manchester United manager David Moyes was a very busy man over the weekend as he apparently scouted three high profile German transfer targets.

United didn’t have a fixture this weekend which seemingly allowed Moyes to go over to Germany to take in some Bundesliga football, specifically to watch three players; Matthias Ginter, Julian Draxler and Benedikt Howedes.

Ginter starred in a Freiburg side that managed to keep a clean sheet against Hertha Berlin with several sources commenting on Moyes’ presence at the match and drawing conclusions that he could be eyeing up Ginter as Nemanja Vidic’s replacement with the Serbian set to leave United at the end of the season.

Ginter’s future and the idea that he could move in the summer is old news. The 20-year-old is one of the most consistent players in Freiburg’s side and he will be scouted extensively, possibly again by United, before the end of the season.

Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft commented on stories he’s seen in the German press, which have suggested that Moyes was also in Germany to watch FC Schalke’s defeat to Bayern Munich.

Specifically, he’s reported to have been watching Howedes and Draxler, who would be two good additions in the defence and attack of the current United side despite the heavy back-to-back defeats Schalke have now been handed; 6-1 by Real Madrid and 5-1 by Bayern Munich.

However, those reports are difficult to understand because Fjortoft, a well respected, popular and busy German football expert also confirmed that he didn’t see Moyes at any point.

That suggests the Scot is either extremely good at keeping a low profile, unlikely, or the stories floating around in the various corners of the German press aren’t based on anything solid.

The biggest lose if Moyes was watching Draxler as well as Ginter is Arsenal because the Gunners have also been widely linked with both players, publicly trying to sign Draxler at the end of the last transfer window.
