Arsenal attacker Lukas Podolski has given an interview in his homeland on a variety of topics

The ever-popular Lukas Podolski has been speaking to BILD ahead of Germany's upcoming World Cup qualifier and shows no dip in confidence.

The forward has been in and out of the side at Arsenal due partly to injury and in other instances because Arsene Wenger simply prefers others.

It was considered this could harm his international prospects, and while he has been named in this week's Germany squad, the omission of Thomas Muller and Julian Draxler due to injury and fitness issues means the situation for Brazil is not quite clear.

Podolski is unconcerned however, insisting his track record gives him reason to be confident.

He stated: "The team is always good when I play. But at the moment other players seem to have the lead. This is a snapshot recording. Football goes fast. Of course you always want to play.

"The coach will decide in the end who is on the pitch, and that must be respected. I've always played the last few years and brought my performance, I have 111 international caps. The coach knows my strengths, he could always rely on me. And he can in the future."

Podolski also gave his backing to Serge Gnabry to gatecrash the squad, despite his breakthrough season at Arsenal losing momentum in recent weeks.

"He has the quality to jump on the World Cup train. Jogi Löw has to decide whether he is mature enough to participate there. I was at my first major tournament in 2004, 18 years old. I think it's great that someone like Serge plays for Arsenal and is brought into focus here."

He was also asked whether he would finish his career at Arsenal, with his contract presently running until 2016. His response?

"I do not intend to finish my career in the next few years. My next contract is by no means my last. Whether I sign another here or elsewhere - that one we will see ... I want to play for a long time, because I love football."
